Title
Item Code: MEPDG-3 This manual describes the pavement design methodology termed mechanistic-empirical (M-E) pavement design. Based on engineering mechanics that have been validated through extensive road test performance data, the manual presents information necessary for pavement design engineers to use the MEPDG design and analysis method. With the implementation of the MEPDG. 1.3 Report Organization. A comprehensive literature review focusing on the performance of the MEPDG is summarized in Section 2 of this report. Section 3 focuses on the national as well as the regional implementation of the MEPDG and includes a summary of the findings of the user group meeting.

The Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) was developed under National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 1-37A as a novel mechanistic-empirical procedure for the analysis and design of pavements. The MEPDG, published in 2008, was subsequently supported by AASHTO’s DARWin-ME pavement design software (starting in April 2011) and AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design was the next generation of pavement design software (as of February 2013).
